ASHLAND SCHOOL BOARD ATTENDS OSBA CONFERENCE IN PORTLAND For the first time in several years, the annual conference of the Oregon School Board Association was held in person in Portland the weekend of November 11-13. All members of the Ashland board attended along with Superintendent Bogdanove. At least two members were seeing the conference live for the first time. This gathering offers many speakers and workshops focused on issues that school boards manage, including: • the importance of student voice in school operations, • increasing support for teachers, • staffing shortages, • legislative changes on the horizon, • funding needs. All Board Members reported finding the experience informative, energizing and inspiring. Board Members are community volunteers and give hours of their time to make positive changes for Ashland students. Our thanks go to our Ashland School Board superheroes. Steve has been an administrator in Ashland School District since 2005, and as AMS Principal for many years. Early in his career, he served as a school counselor in the Bay Area before moving to Ashland. Steve is recognized as a leader in the state of Oregon for his work on a proficiency based grading system that helps kids know what they are learning and gives them clear learning goals. He says it was very difficult to leave the classroom where the best student-teacher relationships are forged. But was drawn to broaden his impact working collaboratively with other outstanding educators to make Ashland middle School the best possible place it can be for our students.
