Ashland School District Math Adoption Recommendations

In the 2022-23 school year, the Ashland School District began a curriculum adoption process for K-12 mathematics. A team of K-12 teachers and district level staff was assembled in October to begin the process. We began by reviewing two articles about best practices in mathematics. We had a broad, K-12 discussion of our state standards, and our values in teaching math in the most effective way to develop proficient, flexible, mathematicians. The committee created a rubric for adoption criteria following district policy and best practices. The committee used that criteria to select math programs that fit those criteria the best. After doing research and hearing presentations from our top three program selections, each instructional level (elementary, middle, high) made a first and second choice selection and presented those at the March School Board meeting. The month of April will be a period for public feedback on our math adoption choices. The final adoption recommendation, incorporating public feedback, will go to a vote at the School Board meeting in May.
