You must resubmit a parking pass form even if you turned one in last year.

La Clinica is here to support you with your medical and mental health needs. It is time to collect updated paperwork and consents. If you are 15 or older, you can sign up on your own. If you are 14 or under, we need parent permission. We need the paperwork and consent completed before we can see you. Stop by the health center to pick it up. SPEAK follows five of the nation’s top teenage speech competitors, capturing the euphoria of victory and the devastation of defeat as they craft and perform original oratories over the course of a 9-month season. Their dream is simple: To win the Super Bowl of public speaking, the NSDA Nationals.

We witness them, their coaches and their parents as they fight to keep school speech programs alive amid budget cuts, book bans and censorship efforts that reach a fevered pitch during the 2024 election year.

SPEAK captures the passion, joy—and courage—of unforgettable teens using their voices to change hearts and minds. This film is the perfect antidote for these fraught times—intense, funny, and most of all, hopeful.

This is a one night showing only, on Wednesday, September 17th, at 7:30 pm at the Varsity Theater in Ashland. For ticketing and more information, click this link here: https://catheatres.com/varsity/film/3200/aiff-presents-speak/

Since 1947, the VFW has sponsored an essay contest. Named the "Voice of Democracy", this program annually challenges high school students to submit a three-to-five minute long audio recording answering a specific question. This year's question is, "How are you showing Patriotism and Support to Our Country?" Entries enter a national competition that culminates with the national award winner receiving a $35,000 scholarship. The VFW also awards prizes to local and regional winners. An entry form and full contest rules are available at https://vfw-org-hqagarhxahbybyd9.z01.azurefd.net/-/media/VFWSite/Files/Community/Youth-and-Education/Voice-of-Democracy-Entry-Form-Fillable.pdf?la=en&v=1&d=20250425T161111Z Entries are due at Post 1833 by midnight, 31 October 2025. If you have any specific questions about the contest, submission guidelines, or assistance in submitting an essay, you can email dr.paul.j.cook@gmail.com or call (703) 862-5304.

Ashland High School seniors Azaleah and Owen were honored this week by Superintendent Dr. Joseph Hattrick, who presented them with special black graduation honor cords in recognition of their service as student representatives to the Ashland School Board. These cords mark their leadership and commitment to amplifying student voices throughout the year. Azaleah and Owen's advocacy and dedication have made a lasting impact on both the board and their peers—congratulations to both on this meaningful distinction.

Three people stand together smiling in front of a wooden bookshelf. In the center is Superintendent Dr. Joseph Hattrick, holding black graduation cords, flanked by Ashland High School student board representatives Owen (right, wearing a gray “Leadership” sweatshirt and blue cap) and Azaleah (left, wearing a burgundy top and denim skirt). Books and a red ant sculpture are visible on the shelves behind them.
