Ashland High School Community,
As we look ahead to the 2025–2026 school year, I am filled with gratitude, pride, and excitement for what’s to come. It is both an honor to serve as the Interim Principal of Ashland High School and a joy to welcome a new leader to our Grizzly family.
Please join me in welcoming Rebecca Bjornson as our new Interim Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. Rebecca is a deeply respected and trusted member of our school community, bringing more than 15 years of experience at AHS in roles that span English Language Arts, Special Education, and our Life Skills transition program for students ages 18–21. Her work has consistently reflected a commitment to inclusive, student-centered practices and a culture of equity.
In recent years, Rebecca has served as the district’s Bond Administrator, managing large-scale improvement projects, enhancing campus safety, and securing key external funding. Her unique combination of leadership experience, operational knowledge, and deep care for students positions her well to lead our athletic programs and facilities into the future. A lifelong athlete and youth mentor, Rebecca brings passion, expertise, and vision to this role—and I’m confident that she will support our student-athletes, coaches, and entire community with the same heart and dedication she’s shown throughout her career.
As I step into the role of Interim Principal, I do so with a deep sense of purpose. Ashland High School has long been my professional home—as a Spanish teacher, coach, Assistant Principal, and most recently as Athletic Director. These roles have shaped my belief in the power of community, resilience, and collaboration. I lead with four core values: positivity, creativity, professionalism, and commitment, and I remain dedicated to building a joyful, inclusive school culture that fosters both academic and personal growth.
At AHS, our students are at the heart of everything we do. We encourage them to take ownership of their learning, engage fully in our school community, and grow into thoughtful, responsible individuals. Our staff, families, and caregivers are essential partners in this journey, and together we ensure every student is supported, challenged, and celebrated.
The year ahead holds great promise. With Rebecca stepping into her new role and our entire team committed to our mission, I am confident that we will continue to strengthen the foundation of excellence, connection, and pride that makes Ashland High School so special.
Let’s embrace this new chapter together—with Grizzly spirit and shared purpose.
With appreciation and Grizzly Pride,
Dr. Francisco L. Atanes
Interim Principal
Ashland High School
