Battle of the Books

IF YOU LOVE A GOOD STORY
THEN YOU’RE READY FOR...

OREGON’S BATTLE OF THE BOOKS!

That’s right! Walker Elementary students entering 3
rd, 4th, and 5th grades can read* their way into battle – BOOK BATTLE!

By answering questions about books from the book list, you can participate in fun and exciting Quiz Show -style competitions to be held in March.

We’ll have our first meeting in the Fall, but you can start reading* now! Start with a couple books this summer, and then read some more this Fall and Winter as you get ready.

You can check out Oregon’s Battle of the Books website at
www.oboblsta.pbworks.com.

If you have questions or comments, you can also email Walker teacher coordinators
Dylana Garfas-Knowles at
Dylana.Garfas@ashland.k12.or.us
Jennifer Parks at
Jennifer.parks@ashland.k12.or.us

Hope you’ll join us!

Note to parents:

  • Most students will read about half of their book list.

  • The list is specifically balanced for grades 3-5 reading level and is age-appropriate in terms of interest and maturity.

  • Because students learn differently, reading and listening to books are valid ways of “reading” in this program. (Movies don’t count, though!)

  • The books are all available in paperback and Walker will work to have all listed books available to kids.

  • It’s free.
