During this time of post-pandemic adjustment, many of our children are experiencing increased levels of worry and upset. Understanding the basics of brain science and emotional self-regulation helps us guide and teach our children with more confidence and connection. During this presentation we will: • Learn about the basics of interpersonal neurobiology. • Take part in a "Mind-Up" lesson (similar to what our children experience at school) that addresses three parts of the brain that regulate emotion, learning and memory • Understand how using a 5-point scale can help children understand and regulate the size of challenging feelings • Learn more about basic routines and habits that help or children feel safer, more focused and learn better • Have the opportunity to make a "Calm Down" bottle, create a "Morning Routine" and gather resources. Our talented and dedicated elementary CDS (Child Development Specialist) team will be leading this workshop. They are Michelle Bolinger (Bellview), Amber Langer (TRAILS), Brooke Johnson-Thygeson (Walker), Kat Smith (Helman) and Britt Humphrey (Willow Wind).

It's Classified Staff Appreciation Week and we are celebrating the backbone of our District. Our front Office staff, Samantha Wilson and Kelly Tygerson, go the extra mile every single day, helping the students, staff, and families feel welcomed and supported. Everything from taking temperatures, to ordering supplies, to managing student information, attendance, and records.... these two DO IT ALL! We were honored to have Dr. Geneva Craig visit our BSU this afternoon! She shared about her life growing up during segregation in Selma, Alabama and joined the group in creating family trees that focused on the love that families create while also displaying how different one family can look from another. It was great having a few AHS BSU members join for this special afternoon! Thank you for visiting with us Dr. Craig!

Dragons explore forces and motion with the pinball machine challenge.

As part of our school wide positive behavior program, students and staff write Dragon Shout-Outs to others recognizing the ways others are modeling our Theme of the Month. Each week Principal Cuddeback draws two random shout-outs from a box and the winner's class gets to choose from a few prizes. This month's prizes are: dress the principal, recess in the gym with Mr. H, or choose a song for a school-wide dance party. Ms. Taylor's 3rd graders chose to "Dress the Principal" on Friday. They did a spectacular job! Monday we'll have a school wide dance party during announcements as another student's choice. Way to go Dragons!

Tomorrow is another Walk & Roll to School Day! Shout out to Katie & Amanda, awesome Helman parent volunteers, who inspire students to walk, bike, scooter or bus to school to help the earth and get good exercise. Thank you to RVTD for the fantastic incentives!
