Madison

Although this is Madison Huson’s first year as the Language Arts teacher on the Aspen team, it is not her first year here at Ashland Middle School. In the 2021-22 school year, she student taught with Austin Wallace in the fall and then became our on-staff sub for the spring. In the year before that, she was an Educational Assistant here. “Working with middle schoolers is so much fun! I tell people all the time that I never smile as much as when I am with this age group. Another misconception people have of middle schoolers is that they are deep and empathetic thinkers. They totally are!”

Born and raised in Hesperia, California in the Mojave Desert, Madison first came to Ashland to finish her English degree at Southern Oregon University. “I wanted to be somewhere it rained and had trees,” she admits. While at SOU, Madison taught English in Korea and then after graduating she taught English in Japan, which is what put her on the path to teaching back here in the States.

Madison met her partner Mark, who works in the IT Department of the Ashland School District, while at SOU 7 years ago. They have two cats, Maeve and Elsie. Not surprisingly, Madison loves to read, but she also enjoys hearing to live music (especially her friends), making ceramics, and redecorating their house. “I love it here in Ashland. This is my favorite place to be and I feel very lucky that I’ve gotten my first teaching experience here at AMS.” We feel very lucky as well.
