NATIONAL TITLE 1 DISTINGUISHED SCHOOL : To receive this award, John Muir had to meet one of two categories. 1. Exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years 2. Close the achievement gap between student groups. Schools selected must demonstrate a wide array of strengths, including team approaches to teaching and learning, focused professional development opportunities for staff, individualized programs for student success and strong partnerships between the school, parents and the community.  What makes National Title I Distinguished Schools’ stories especially powerful are the documented student achievement gains that have resulted from their innovations.

STATE REPORT CARD RATING : The Oregon Department of   Education produces yearly report cards for schools and districts. These reports were mandated by the 1999 state legislature and provide educators with an opportunity to communicate directly with parents and community members about how local schools are performing.

In 2013, the Oregon Department of Education released a redesigned school and district Report Card. This redesigned Report Card was the product of a year of review and revisions, led by an external Report Card Steering Committee and informed by feedback from thousands of stakeholders around the state. Prior to the approval of its ESEA Flexibility Waiver, Oregon was required under the No Child Left Behind Act to make annual determinations of whether schools and districts made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) toward the goal of having all students meet rigorous state academic standards by the 2013-2014 school year. For the 2011-2012 reports, Oregon has produced AMO reports in place of AYP reports. Although these reports still describe performance against rigorous standards (called Annual Measurable Objectives, or AMOs), they do not make the AYP determinations of Met or Not Met.
