UNDERSTANDING BOARD MEETINGS

The school board usually meets in regular public sessions on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7:00 p.m. Normally, regular sessions (second Monday) are held at the City Council Chamber, 1175 E. Main Street,  Ashland. This schedule sometimes varies, and special meetings and work sessions are scheduled as necessary. During the period of bond construction, most months will include a work session focused on the bond on the third Monday of the month.

Under the provision of ORS 192.670 all meetings will be live streamed at through Rogue Valley Television, except for those meetings that fall under the provisions set forth for executive sessions.

NOTE: In light of current public health concerns related to the coronavirus COVID-19, school board meetings have taken place virtually. Pursuant to ORS 192.670, the meetings are open to the public via live Zoom links posted on the web site in advance. As conditions change, please watch this site for updated information about meetings and locations.

PUBLIC INPUT AND COMMENTS

PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT

The public is invited to attend Board meetings to gain a better understanding of school district business and the role of the School Board.

Members of the public are welcome to attend any regular or specially scheduled board meeting or work session. On occasion the board may hold an executive session to cover specific types of confidential information; executive sessions are not open to the public, in accordance with Oregon law.

PUBLIC INPUT

The school board encourages public input. There is a time for public comments scheduled near the beginning of each regular board meeting. Comments do not need to be related to items on the meeting agenda. Audience members who wish to speak must sign up before the meeting.

It is the responsibility of the  Board to actively listen and reflect on public comments. The Board will not respond to any comments or questions during public comment, but will take all comments into consideration and may ask staff to follow up.

Guidelines for public input emphasize respect and consideration of others.  Complaints about individual employees should be directed to the Superintendent’s office as a personnel matter.

** While the meetings of the Board of Education occur virtually, the public will continue to be invited to address the board. Individuals interested in addressing the board must sign-up in advance of the scheduled meeting. You may sign-up by calling Jackie Schad at 541-482-2811, extension 1119, or by emailing Jacqueline.Schad@ashland.k12.or.us.  Email should include Public Comment in the subject line and must be received by 12:00 noon the day of the meeting. Please share your topic.

As usual, requests for public comment will be processed in the order that they are received. Once it has been confirmed, you will receive a link via email with instructions.
