For Immediate Release
POSITIONS OPENING ON ASHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD
The Ashland School District has announced that positions #1, #3, and #4 on the school board will be open for the election to be held May 18, 2021. These positions are currently held by directors Tomas Monter-Rangel, Eva Skuratowicz, and Jim Westrick.
The role of the board of directors is to represent the community and the school district by “hiring and firing” and evaluating the superintendent, adopting policy issues, approving the budget, and providing governance support to the district superintendent.
The board is looking for people interested in doing what is best for students and working collaboratively to help the district achieve its strategic goals of continuous improvement.
Individuals interested in considering one of the positions are encouraged to review the information provided by the Oregon School Board Association. There are resources outlining the role of school boards and information on how to file to become a candidate.
In order to qualify, candidates must live in the boundaries of the school district. No prior experience is required. The candidate filing process opens February 8 and closes March 18, followed by the election on May 18, 2021, when district voters will fill the 4-year positions.
Information about candidate filing and election procedures can be found at the Jackson County Elections Office.
