 School:Ashland High School
 Event Type:AHS Seniors and Parents/Guardians
Details:Financial Aid (FAFSA) Information Night for Seniors and their Parent/Guardians
Wednesday, September 18th, 6:30-8:00 pm in the IVC

On Wednesday, September 18th from 6:30-8:00 pm in the IVC, AHS counseling staff will discuss the process for completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is an online application (https://fafsa.ed.gov/) which qualifies students to receive the Federal Pell Grant, the Oregon Opportunity Grant, the Oregon Promise, and government loans. This meeting is important if your student plans to attend a private/public university, community college or vocational school. Even if you think your family will not qualify for federal financial aid, it is important that you complete the FAFSA. Some schools will not give students merit aid unless they have a FAFSA on record. Students must also complete the FAFSA to qualify for the Oregon Promise Grant, which currently has no income cap.We will also briefly discuss the CSS Profile, a separate online application many private schools use to determine institutional financial aid (https://student.collegeboard.org/css-financial-aid-profile).

The 2020-21 FAFSA goes live on October 1st and will use tax information from 2018. Students planning to start college in fall of 2020 should complete the 2020-21 FAFSA.  Before October 1st, both the student and one parent can sign up for an FSA ID. The FSA ID is the Federal Student Aid Identification students and parents use to sign and verify information on their FAFSA and federal student loans. It is important that students sign up for their own FSA ID (https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid).

Prior to filling out the FAFSA, families can also complete the FAFSA4Caster (https://fafsa.ed.gov/FAFSA/app/f4cForm?execution=e1s1) to see if they will likely be eligible for government aid.
