At it's board meeting on November 14, 2016, the Ashland School Board adopted the following criteria, candidate profile and characteristics for use in the superintendent search

Minimum Job Requirements
The Superintendent will meet the following job related requirements.
  • A current Oregon administrative license with an authorization for all levels with a superintendent’s endorsement or a transitional superintendent license;
  • A master’s or greater in the field of education, preferably in educational administration;
  • Successful teaching experience at  multiple grade levels (preferred);
  • In lieu of the experience and training requirements above, the Board may consider as a candidate for its superintendent’s position an individual who meets transitional administrator or exceptional administrator licensure requirements.
The superintendent will have the following personal and professional characteristics.

  • Is highly visible and involved in the schools and community​
  • Serves as educational leader and role model for staff with a background in the classroom​
  • Demonstrates solid budgeting skills and understands Oregon school finance
  • Wants to be a part of the Ashland community for a long time
  • Practices cultural and diversity awareness with a commitment to equity
  • Is committed to serving all students from all backgrounds with a “whole child” philosophy
  • Is not afraid to think outside the box for solutions to problems
  • Values and respects the contribution from all staff and treats them as professionals
  • Believes in students and values their input
  • Demonstrates a record of successful hiring practices and has experience with collaborative bargaining
  • Builds partnerships with community, local government and higher education organizations
  • Willing to take on a multiple roles and responsibilities
  • Provides visionary, innovative leadership for K-12 education initiatives; able to lead leaders
  • Is familiar with innovative best practices and has a plan for successful implementation
  • Works in partnership with an energized Board focused on serving kids, staff and parents
