AHS Administration proudly presents Parent Academy. This series of informational workshops and networking opportunities is designed to support student success in high school and in life. Parenting is a vital, complex, and humbling occupation. Please mark your calendars to join us as we put the pieces together for student success!
All events feature a panel of experts and a Q&A session from 7:00-8:30PM in the AHS Library.
Monday, September 18 – Open House 6:00-8:30PM (meet in the large gym)
We want all families to attend Open House. Visit your student’s classes; meet teachers and learn how to support your student’s academic achievement.
October 1 –BRAINSTORM: THE POWER AND PURPOSE OF THE TEEN BRAIN by Daniel J.Siegel, MD
Local counselor, Lexi Delgado, will facilitate a parent, student, and staff study of Dr. Siegel’s newest book. This book includes an enormous amount of excellent information and offers valuable strategies for supporting adolescent development. Copies are available for purchase in the AHS Main Office and at Parent Academy for $19.25. Students earn community service hours for attending Parent Academy.
November 5–DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
Join us as we explore areas of privilege and anti bias language. Where does AHS do well and where do we have work to do? We invite families of all backgrounds to join us for this important dialog and workshop.

December 3 – MARIJUANA USE PREVENTION
A panel of local experts will share strategies for helping students stay clean and sober, along with suggestions for how to respond if they use.
January 7 – ATTENDANCE
This is a mandatory session for families with truant students.
February 4 – SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT
Across the country, juniors will take this national assessment this spring. Come learn more about it and get a sneak peek at practice questions.
March 4 - COLLEGE ADMISSIONS
Whether you are a parent of 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th graders, you will learn how to support your student in this process.
April 1 – TEEN SEXUALITY
A panel of local experts will share information and respond to parents’ questions.
