Dear Student Families with Ashland School District,
Families in the Ashland School District are currently eligible to apply for a free room air purifier.
The City of Ashland secured a grant from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality to protect our most vulnerable citizens from the effects of smoke by supplying free HEPA-grade room air purifiers to those who qualify. Whether smoke is from wildfires or from our own controlled burns that are an important tool for managing our watershed, smoke particulates can be removed using a room air purifier.
According to the Oregon Health Authority, children (under 15) are particularly sensitive to smoke because their respiratory systems are still developing, their airways are smaller and, they breathe in more air per pound of body weight. Therefore, we invite families in ASD to sign up to receive a purifier.
Partners of Smokewise Ashland will be distributing room air purifiers to qualified student families. Due to high demand for the air purifiers and a limited supply, we will be qualifying student families based on the following criteria:
Age vulnerability which includes young children & students under 15 and, residents over 65
Students predisposed by heart and lung problems including asthma and COPD
Participants with the greatest financial need
The City of Ashland and Ashland School District would like to invite ASD student families to participate in the program:
