Ashland School District No. 5, Jackson County, Oregon - The Budget Committee met in a regular session on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. in the Ashland School District Board Room.  Present were:

I.          Call to Order


            The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Curt Bacon.


II.        Roll Check


            A roll of the Committee was taken and all members were present with the exception of Keith Massie.


III.             Response to Questions


Questions with responses were distributed.  A copy is attached hereto and becomes a part of these minutes.  Juli Di Chiro and Jill Turner reviewed and explained the questions and responses.


Several budget committee members expressed concern that there isn’t enough time to fully review and understand the budget document prior to approval. 


IV.       Options for Publication of the Budget Document


Discussion was held about the large complicated budget document.  Richard Whitley suggested that, once the budget document is submitted, the budget committee meet again and decide what type of budget document should be developed for the committee members to review.  Members of the committee agreed.


A suggestion was made to review the budget by the school levels – elementary, middle and high school.  Subcommittees were established as follows:  Ashland High School – Larry Cooper and Curt Bacon; Ashland Middle School – Ruth Alexander and Bill Anderson; Elementary Schools – Heidi Parker and Richard Whitley; Maintenance and Transportation – Carol Davis and Eva Skuratowicz. Subcommittee members should submit questions via email so the responses can be shared at the next meeting.  Also, we will determine when we could meet again after the budget approval.


V.        Public Discussion


There was no public discussion.


VI.       Set Agenda for Next Meeting OR motions to approve appropriations as presented or amended and approve the property tax levy


            The next agenda will include responses to questions and determine when the budget committee could meet again after the budget is approved.


VII.     Adjournment


            There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:22 pm.
