Michele Warrence-Schreiber is a Reading Specialist/Coach at Ashland Middle School who works with small groups of striving readers who are not yet reading at grade level. They have been identified through group screenings; individual assessments; state standardized tests; and teacher and parent observation and referral.
Since the inception of this intervention program at AMS in 2005, data shows students have made enormous gains in fluency and comprehension. Michele primarily works with sixth graders on developing fluency (speed, accuracy, prosody) and building comprehension strategies (strategic reading).
Michele collaborates with colleagues at the Southern Oregon Education Services District (SOESD) and AMS, sharing current research and trends in adolescent literacy.
Michele has taught in Ashland since 1986 and holds a Masters Degree in Reading Education. She loves working with adolescents, helping them build their literacy skills and learn new strategies to enhance their learning across the curriculum.
