Jay, and wife Beth, have been married for over 35 years. Beth is the rock of the family, working two jobs and running a small farm. They have two sons: Bryce, who is a chef; and Drew, who will soon be a veterinarian. Their move to Ashland comes after an extensive stay in Idaho.
Jay received his Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education/Health and English from the College of Idaho in 1978 and immediately began teaching high school English, coaching several sports, and even driving the bus from-to-time. Soon he headed back to C of I and completed a Masters in Education (counseling), and for the next 5 years, served as a high school counselor, while finishing his endorsement to be a K-12 Administrator.
Jay's first administrative job was as a high school vice principal and athletic director. This valuable experience propelled him into two high school principal positions: first in Kuna, Idaho, and then in Ontario, Oregon. After 7 years in these positions, a friend and mentor recruited Jay to work with him in the district office in Nampa, Idaho. As an assistant superintendent for 9 years, Jay had the opportunity to work with nearly every educational and operational system responsible for supporting the continuous improvement of each school's instructional program. Most recently, Jay led the Kuna School District as their superintendent (8 years).
In each of these roles, Jay has focused on enhancing highly productive, existing programs; on helping to develop new student and staff learning opportunities; as well as, on creating, fostering, and nurturing synergetic partnerships.
