EARTH TEACH SHELTER UPDATE...
If you are planning on joining the work party next Saturday, Oct 7 at 9am, below is some important information about tool needs and workflow. Plug in where your skills are most needed. Thanks to all who will make next Saturday our largest and most successful work party yet!!!
Plywood for bat and board gable end siding is already onsite. The most efficient work force on this will be 2-3 people of the skilled carpenter variety. Sky will bring scaffold, chop saw, table saw, compressor, siding nail gun, etc. Carpenter types should bring tool bags with personal hand tools.
BOLT & HARDWARE INSTALL:
Need to drill out the metal brackets from a 5/8" hole to 3/4" and then drill through the post or beam to install the bolts. We can use as many people as we have ladders, drills and drill bits.
-volunteers with some patience for a tedious task (there are about 100 holes)
-cordless drills with lots of charged batteries (less we need the generator the better)
-corded drills and extension cords
-3/4" drill bits or step bits for drilling metal
-6' ladders or equivalent- all holes are 8' off the ground
SITE WORK: Lots still to do...IF SOMEONE COULD TAKE THE REIGNS ON ORGANIZING THIS PORTION, THAT WOULD BE GREAT!
-hauling and spreading wood chips
-putting debris in burn piles
-finishing gravel along shelter drip lines, etc.
Things we will need for roofing install:
-hammer tackers- T50 staple compatible
-razor knives for cutting felt
-cordless drills for driving screws (please charge batteries before work party day as outlets on generator will be in high demand)
-phillips bits and 1/4" driver bits for screws
-metal snips (lefts and rights) for cutting trim pieces
-short (12'-16') extension ladder
Most efficient work force on this will be 3-4 people per side. 2 people on the roof and 1 or 2 people passing up and down materials, tools and roofing pieces.
Put on felt. Install drip edge at eave. Square up first panel. Install rest of panels. Last panel per side will be custom cut to width. Install gable end trim flashing. Install ridge cap.
An efficient team of 6-8 could do all of this in 5 hours or less. Once panels are installed, a few people might be able to plug into a different project as work will be more tedious.
