Reading Curriculum Materials Available for Viewing
Dear Families, School Board, and Community Stakeholders,
Since the adoption of the English Language Arts Common Core State Standards in the fall of 2010, Helman teachers have been working to adapt and create curriculum to meet the needs of our students. In an effort to fill gaps and create alignment in our overall reading program, we are now looking to adopt a K-5 curriculum that will provide a foundation for instruction in every classroom.
Throughout the 2015-16 school year, Helman teachers have reviewed a variety of language arts materials. Many teachers piloted materials to get a sense of student engagement, required planning time, and the overall rigor of instruction.
We have narrowed our selection to three finalists (Literacy By Design, Reading Wonders, and Reach for Reading) and would like to invite you to view the curriculum we are considering. Materials will be on view until April 29 in the Helman School office. Comment cards will be available if you’d like to give your impression of the programs.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
