Walker School Emphasizes Empathy in October & November

Take a moment to check out the Ashland Daily Tidings article,
Walker Elementary puts a focus on empathy

During the months of October and November, Walker’s school theme is “Empathy”.  Each class will be learning about identifying feelings, self-talk, and what it means to be empathetic.  Recognize and celebrate when your child is showing empathy.  Also, talk about these questions with your child:
  • Why is it important to show empathy toward others?
  • What does it mean to “put yourself in someone else’s shoes”?
  • What can you do to show empathy toward another person? Brainstorm a list of ways that you can reach out to others.
  • Think of a time when you hurt someone’s feelings.  Describe what happened. How did you know that you hurt the person’s feelings?  How did you feel about the situation?  What did you do to make the situation better?
