I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m. by Chair Marr.
II. Roll Check
A roll of the board was taken and all members were present.
III. Discuss Legislative Issues with Alan Bates and Peter Buckley
The Board discussed the upcoming legislative session with Senator Bates and Representative Buckley. Juli Di Chiro presented the impact of the Governorís proposed budget, and noted that this results in a $2.5 million dollar reduction for the Ashland School District next year. According to Senator Bates and Representative Buckley, all economic indicators at the state are currently negative and the financial conditions could worsen before they improve. They are not optimistic about additional money for K-12 over what the Governor has proposed. There is some possibility of a national stimulus package which could have a positive impact, but that is still to be determined. Senator Bates and Representative Buckley responded to questions of the Board on various issues.
Senator Bates requested that Juli Di Chiro send him a list of the things that the Oregon Department of Education does that are worthwhile to the district as well as a list of the functions they provide that are necessary. He would also like information on a growth model for assessment for accountability.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:23p.m.
