III.       AHS Design Team Meeting

District staff and Gary DeCock updated the AHS Design Team members on the changes that had been made in the AHS design in order to bring it within budget.  The original reduction target had been reduced because funds were able to be allocated to the major construction from both the lighting project and the ADA strategies.

The first reduction that was reviewed was the elimination of the new black box theater.  AHS staff suggested constructing a black box theater in the existing metals shop and utilizing the current black box as a scene shop.  DLR is working on the design elements of that strategy.  It is anticipated that we will still be able to save the amount of funds allocated on the list.

Several of the strategies that were approved for reduction have since been reinstated by the Board as part of its sustainable strategies work.  The cost for those changes will not be charged to the high school budget, but will be transferred to the sustainable strategies budget.  The music department expressed many concerns about their space and need for additional storage.  They were also concerned about acoustics in the music room and access issues.  It was decided that the music department would stay after the meeting to discuss how their concerns had been addressed in the current plans.

The remainder of the strategies were reviewed with little comment from the design team.  Each member of the design team had an opportunity to express their opinion about the process that had been used.  Most were pleased with the progress that has been made and the outcome of the reductions.  The AHS Design Team will now meet on an ad hoc basis to receive updates and information about progress as we move into the construction phase.

IV.       Adjournment

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by Jeanne Peterson, Administrative Assistant.
